2016 Lakeside grad named to Baylor Law School's Mock Trial Team - Hot Springs Sentinel

WACO, Texas -- A Hot Springs native and 2016 graduate of Lakeside High School, Steve Lowry, was recently selected to compete as part of Baylor Law School's National Mock Trial Team.
Currently in his second year at Baylor Law, upon first completing his undergraduate degree at Baylor University, Lowry plans on graduating the law school in December 2023.
Baylor Law's Mock Trial Competition Team is one of the top-ranked law school mock trial programs in the country, according to a news release.
Team members have the opportunity to hone their advocacy skills and further develop their courtroom lawyer techniques. The Mock Trial Competition Team travels across the country to represent Baylor Law at a variety of prestigious civil and criminal trial competitions, it said.
Lowry participated in a moot court competition earlier in his law school studies in which he and his partner placed eighth after making it to the quarterfinals. They placed in the Top 8 out of 21 teams. They did a ranking of litigation in the class and out of 42 students in the class, he ranked 10th in litigation.
He will compete with the team in his first competition later this month at the Capitol City Challenge, hosted by American University Washington College of Law.
Originally scheduled to be held in Washington, D.C., it will instead be held virtually due to the COVID-19 omicron variant. Having just recently completed an internship at the Limestone County District Attorneys Office in Groesbeck, Texas, Lowry will be doing others this summer in both Plano and Houston. He will be interning the latter part of the summer with the Plano District Attorneys Office.
Just starting his fifth quarter, or Q5, on Monday, his ultimate plan is to work as a prosecutor and specialize in domestic violence against women and children. Lowry's sister was the victim of a homicide two years ago, which ignited a passion in his heart to prosecute, the release said.
