2nd Annual Sidewalk Santa connects Scranton residents and youth with law enforcement - fox56.com

SCRANTON (WOLF) — You better watch out, because Santa Claus came to town in Scranton - making stops at local neighborhoods and shopping centers throughout the Electric City Tuesday evening.
Scranton Police Department Chief Leonard Namiotka says it’s a great opportunity to bridge a relationship between his department and residents.
“It’s very important to give back to the community, that’s what we’re about with the police department. We’re out in the community to give us tips and cooperate with us to help solve crimes but today its special that we give back to the community. So putting smiles on a kids face and build that relationship with the community, that’s what we’re here for," said Chief Namiotka.
Officers escorted Santa to hand out candy canes and coloring booklets to the local youth - at some point, even a helping hand.
Fittingly, the booklets handed out tonight also shared tips on overcoming bullying.
“We had a little gentleman here said he was getting bullied so maybe there was an issue that didn’t report that to anybody that we could actually help him out give him some tips on what to do and how to report that and how to solve that for him so he feels safer in his school," said Namiotka.
Scranton Police say they hope to see the community have a safe and happy holiday.
“Just remember everybody if you’re gonna go out and drink alcohol, things like that and party, be safe, make sure you get a designated driver there’s gonna be cabs out there for ya, set that right up we want to see it safe for everybody. The better that we operate as a community, the better the community is," said Chief Namiotka.
