PEORIA (Heart of Illinois ABC) - Dozens of people gathered in Junction City Saturday to help raise money for an important cause.
‘A Run to Remember’ made its return after a two-year COVID-19 hiatus, and the proceeds go to help families of law enforcement officers who died in the line of duty.
The race started in 2005 to honor a Peoria County Sheriff’s Deputy who lost his life.
25 News spoke to race director Maggie Butterfield about what an event like this means.
“As a law enforcement officer’s wife, this means a lot to me - to see people come out and support this cause,” Butterfield said. “Sometimes, you don’t realize what the families have to go through on a daily basis, and the support that they have to give. This cause helps those survivors continue on.”
People who signed up for Saturday’s event had the option to run in memory of someone, and Butterfield said they raised around $2000 thanks to everyone who showed up.
