AAA underlines Ohio law to move over for roadside vehicles - WNWO NBC 24

In observance of Saturday being National Move Over Day, AAA wants to remind Ohio drivers to slow down and make space when they see vehicles with flashing lights parked on the side of the road.
The agency reported 546 crashes in the state in 2021, including 21 deaths and 59 injuries, and a total of 5,561 from 2015-2020.
A survey by conducted by The Ohio State University found that many Ohioans lack awareness of the move over law.
"Survey data shows that many Ohioans still don't move over for tow truck operators, construction vehicles, or disabled vehicles,' Ferzan M. Ahmed, P.E., executive director of the Ohio Turnpike and Infrastructure Commission, said in a statement. "Since 2015, two tow truck operators have been killed on the Ohio Turnpike. Their families will have to bear the loss of their loved ones for the rest of their lives. People have the responsibility to obey the law in order to keep all roadside workers and motorists safe from injury and death."
More recent data from the AAA Foundation for Traffic Safety found 23% of drivers are unaware of their law while 42% who don't always comply with the laws "said they thought their behavior was somewhat or not dangerous at all to roadside emergency workers."
All 50 states and the District of Columbia have at least one law in place to protect potential roadside victims.
