Arkansas law expert expects standard hearings for SCOTUS nominee Monday - 4029tv
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. —
The hearings for Supreme Court nominee Ketanji Brown Jackson begin Monday, and a University of Arkansas law school professor said the process should be relatively subdued.
Mark Killenbeck is the Wylie H. Davis Distinguished Professor of Law at the University of Arkansas. He said while nothing is certain, he foresees the committee will confirm Jackson.
“With regard to any standard that you put in place, she is certainly consistent with the norm for the past 15 plus years of elite, undergraduate education, elite law school education, elite post law credentials,” Killenbeck said. “Is she qualified by any reasonable, objective, non-political standard? Yes.”
Killenbeck said Jackson has been meticulously preparing for these hearings.
“She's got a handler. There are going to be a group of people who are doing what they call ‘murder boards’ or prep hearings and will pretend to be senators and ask her questions,” Killenbeck said. “She'll have rehearsed answers for most of the questions because most of them are going to be predictable.”
If confirmed, Jackson would be the first Black woman on the U.S. Supreme Court. That confirmation could come before Easter.
