Acevedo briefly entertained running for Los Angeles County sheriff, but according to the LA Times, opted out of declaring his candidacy in December, stating his wish to avoid "diluting" the field of candidates. Judging by his presence on a Tuesday CNN broadcast, the journeyman police chief has instead taken an analyst position with CNN, appearing on a segment of "The Situation Room With Wolf Blitzer" to discuss gun violence in America.

"Joining us now, our new CNN Law Enforcement analyst Art Acevedo, the former police chief of Austin, Houston and Miami," Blitzer said, introducing the former police chief. "Chief Acevedo welcome to CNN."

The news of Acevedo's new position hasn't enthused everyone. Some on Twitter pointed out Acevedo's overseeing of officers involved in the fatal Harding Street raid, a fraudulent 2019 policing action that ended in the deaths of two innocent Houstonians. Also mentioned were the chief's past appearances on "InfoWars," a website and broadcast platform hosted by conspiracy theorist and Sandy Hook truther Alex Jones.

Acevedo in an October NBC segment called his recent firing as Miami police chief in "a pretty embarrassing episode in a 35-year career." Speaking to the LA Times in December, he expressed his reticence to take a new job in policing but maintained he still desires to be part of the "national conversation" on law enforcement reform in America.

"Timing is everything, and I will not will not be running for sheriff of Los Angeles" Acevedo said. "I have a lot to give and will pursue avenues that allow me to continue to be part of the national conversation on criminal justice reform and other matters of public concern."
