Asheville event highlights importance of North Carolina's "Move Over" law - WLOS

ASHEVILLE, N.C. (WLOS) — An event was held on Saturday to spread awareness for North Carolina's "Move Over" law.
This law requires motorists to slow down and approach cautiously when a vehicle is stopped on the shoulder of the roadway with its lights flashing.
The event was held at the Asheville Outlets and featured a silent auction, raffle, food trucks and more.
Organizers say this is a problem nationwide, but this message hits close to home after they lost someone who was struck while loading his tow truck.
"It’s a big problem all over the states, its not just North Carolina," said Adam Hatton with Hatton's Towing & Recovery. "We lost Austin last year because somebody refused to slow down and move over. So us as family and friends decided that if we can bring awareness to WNC, as a group and get it happening that maybe other people would step up and do the same thing.”
If you missed Saturday's event, another will be held on June 4, also at the Asheville Outlets.
