Benefit auction conducted Thursday to help W.Va. law enforcement agencies - WCHS

CHARLESTON, W.Va. (WCHS/WVAH) — Law enforcement agencies will be receiving a financial shot in the arm after the West Virginia Treasurer’s Office conducted a benefit auction Thursday.
State Treasurer Riley Moore said the money can be “used to perhaps to buy a cruiser, land even to be able to build a new facility or be able to buy protective equipment or radios. Being able to update the equipment and so our police can be better served as it relates to the communities they are protecting.”
The unclaimed property firearm auction was held at the agency’s warehouse in Kanawha City in Charleston. It was open to licensed firearms dealers.
Through the state’s property code, state and local law enforcement are allowed to turn over any unclaimed seized or outdated firearms to the state’s Treasurer’s Office for auction. Proceeds then go back to the agencies.
Hundreds of items were up for auction. No word yet on how much was raised, but last year’s auction raised more than $140,000.
