BEREA, Ohio -- City Council is anticipated to soon pass an ordinance to opt out of House Bill 172, a state law that will permit people to own and discharge consumer-grade fireworks on designated days during the year, starting July 1.

The opt-out legislation received its third public reading at council’s April 4 meeting, but members decided to let it stand without a final vote while Law Director Barbara Jones finalizes a fines schedule based on the number of prior offenses an offender has.
