Big bucks for books: Assembly spending hundreds of thousands for hardbound law books - WRGB
In the NYS Assembly, they appear to be spellbound by hard bound books. Records we have obtained through a freedom of information law request show over the past three years the Assembly has continued to spend a staggering amount on law books.
In this digital age, where so much is available online, the Assembly spent $626,000 on law books in 2018, followed by $600,000 in 2019 and $611,000 in 2020.
The precise grand total - $1,838,815.29. All this despite an Assembly work group recommending several years ago that the practice be stopped. We have checked with members from both parties, and everyone we’ve talked to agrees with the work group, and many lawmakers say they don’t believe the books are widely used.
