CADDO PARISH, La. (KSLA) - At a ceremony on Thursday, April 7, Cpl. Shonda Abercrumbia was named Law Officer of the year by La Societe des 40 Hommes Et 8 Chevauxs (The Society of 40 Men and 8 Horses).
The event was at the 40 and 8 Club Chateau.
Cpl. Abercrumbia will now represent Shreveport-Bossier City in the state competition. She has served the Caddo Parish Sheriff’s Office for over 25 years.
“Shonda is a hard worker who is dedicated to her job and it is a joy to supervise her,” said Sgt. Jeff Thomas, in a news release.
She currently is assigned to CPSO’s Civil Division as a process server and member of the CPSO hostage negotiation team. In 2021, she was the main negotiator in two of three hostage situations in 2021. Each time, she was able to negotiate and diffuse the situation. During the winter freeze of February 2021, she assisted the operations division by distributing water to hard-hit areas.
A process server, Cpl. Abercrumbia has been tasked with removing children from a dangerous environment and removing defendants from their homes. According to CPSO, she’s completed all of her orders without incident.
In the past Cpl. Abercrumbia has also worked in the detention and the bailiff section.
Off duty, she is a member of the Order of the Eastern Star and volunteers with the Salvation Army to feed the homeless.
“Her work is exemplary and brings honor to the Caddo Parish Sheriff’s Office and to the citizens that we serve,” said Sgt. Thomas added.
