Canadian Immigration Lawyers Mobilizing to Assist Influx of Ukrainians - Law.com International

Canadian immigration lawyers are mobilizing to help displaced Ukrainians come to Canada, as more than 2 million refugees have already left Ukraine and more are expected to flee as Russia steps up attacks on civilian targets.

Ukrainian-born Igor Yushchenko, who practices immigration law in Halifax, Nova Scotia, mobilized a large group of lawyers to provide immigration services to those fleeing the war. He had a good sense early on of what was to come, as on the same day Russia invaded Ukraine—his father’s birthday—his parents were supposed to fly to Canada to spend time with Yushchenko and his family. They were delayed because of the invasion but eventually managed to get to Canada safely.
