City law director leaving for job in California - Akron Beacon Journal
The city of Twinsburg will have a new face in the administration with the new year, as law director David Maistros will be leaving next month.
Maistros notified Mayor Ted Yates and City Council that he has accepted a city manager position in California, with his resignation effective Jan. 21, 2022.
“The city of Twinsburg has been an extremely important part of my life for many years. I will never forget the dedication, professionalism and friendship of my co-workers," said Maistros. "I would like to thank former Mayor Kathi Procop, Mayor Yates and City Council for their unwavering trust and support. The professional experiences I carry forward were developed in Twinsburg and I will forever be grateful.”
“Dave has been a tremendous asset to the city and my administration. The experience and knowledge that Dave brings to our day-to-day operations is invaluable," said Yates. "As a coworker I am sad to see him go, but as his friend I am excited for him and his family to be in a position to accept this unique opportunity.”
Maistros has worked for the city for 24 years beginning as prosecutor in 1998 and moving into the law director role in 2006. According to the city's administration, over the course of his 24-year career with the city, "he has been instrumental in helping to guide the city through some of its most challenging times and was an integral team member in some of the city’s greatest successes."
Administrators recognized Maistros’ tenure in many ways. They stated he has established relationships with the city’s bargaining units, "successfully negotiating years of union contracts." City leadership and employees have depended on and trusted in Maistros' experience and guidance in most all city matters, they noted. His participation in the creation of the Justice, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion Committee was credited in helping to facilitate important discussions for the community.
“I have had the pleasure of working with Dave Maistros as our law director for the past 15 years. His service to the city of Twinsburg has always been outstanding. His relationship with the City Council is not only business, but also that of a friend," said Council president Sam Scaffide (Ward 1). "I believe I can speak for all our Council members when I say Dave will be sorely missed. As he moves on to the next chapter of his career, we wish him and his family the best health, happiness, and success always.”
The city's charter requires that the position be filled by an attorney admitted to practice in the state of Ohio with a minimum five years of municipal law experience. The mayor will make an appointment which would then be confirmed by City Council. According to the administration, a "diverse group of experienced candidates" have been interviewed and a selection is expected to be announced soon.
