BALTIMORE (WBFF) — It wasn’t just the sky-high blaze that drew attention to the case or Luther Trent's on-camera confession.

His admission to FOX45 News that he torched his ex-girlfriend’s home while she and two roommates were asleep inside. It was also a controversial plea agreement that set him free, an 18-count indictment whittled down to time served.

"Luther Trent was not only on the streets he was on the streets talking to reporters," said Thiru Vignarajah.

Out of the courtroom and into the classroom,

Thiru Vignarajah represents Trent's victims and filed the motion that would ultimately help put him back behind bars.

"It was about making sure the victims in other cases were also being vindicated, these students are going to be the ones doing that in the days to come," he said.

Vignarajah Thursday taking the complex legal questions raised by the case to a class of University of Baltimore law students.

A discussion that centered around victims' rights, challenging students to consider what went wrong and even what's fair?

What Vignarajah actually argued was that the judge never heard the full victim impact statement before Trent's plea agreement was accepted. The judge agreed and the deal was thrown out.

Trent now offered plea for effectively 22 years in addition to a slew of new federal charges.

Vignarajah calling it vindication for the victims and a lesson for legal minds to come.

Taking from a quote, Vignarajah told students, "your job is not to win every case not to secure a convictions but to do justice , to deliver hard blows but not unfair blows."
