Dave Bautista Condemns Texas’ New Anti-Abortion Law | CBR - CBR - Comic Book Resources
On Sep. 1, the Texas Heartbeat Act came into effect, essentially banning abortion after six weeks into a pregnancy. The Act has been highly controversial. Guardians of the Galaxy star Dave Bautista recently expressed his support for those against the Act.
On social media, the former wrestler posted an image of himself wearing a shirt reading, "Her body her choice." He wrote, "There are very few things in this world that I’m not open to discussion about. This is one of them. If you disagree, I don’t give AF."
The Texas Heartbeat Act effectively bans abortions and those aiding an abortion in any way, encouraging individuals to file suits against anyone performing or aiding an abortion in any way. It reads, "Any person, other than an officer or employee of a state or local governmental entity in this state, may bring a civil action against any person who: performs or induces an abortion... knowingly engages in conduct that aids or abets the performance or inducement of an abortion, including paying for or reimbursing the costs of an abortion through insurance or otherwise."
Protests formed against the Act in Texas on the day that it became law. More recently, protests were held against it across the United States on Oct. 3, all part of the 2021 Women's March, supported by over 90 organizations. Many politicians have stood against the Act, including President Biden, who previously described it as a violation of constitutional rights. Researchers and politicians have also condemned the Act for disproportionately affecting people of color and low-income communities.
