David Perdue pushes for teacher raises, GBI election law division in Dalton Tuesday - WTVC

WHITFIELD COUNTY, Ga. — As we start a new month, we're getting closer to an election capturing national attention-- Georgia's race for governor.
Former U.S. Senator David Perdue kicked off his first campaign event Tuesday in Whitfield County where he addressed hot topics like teacher pay and law enforcement.
As Perdue aims for re-election, Tuesday he said he will push for teacher raises.
He also pushed for an election law enforcement division within the GBI that would enforce voting laws.
"I want to form a full time, paid for, law enforcement division, this is election law enforcement division inside the GBI," says Perdue. "That's what it's going to take, these guys are dedicated to nothing but enforcing voting laws."
During his campaign event Perdue also aired a video of former President Donald Trump who endorsed Perdue and consistently said the 2020 election was stolen, despite investigations revealing the contrary.
Right now incumbent governor Brian Kemp plans to hold his seat against challenger David Perdue in the Republican primary.
Whoever wins that nomination will face Democrat Stacey Abrams, an activist who ran for this position in 20-18 and lost to Kemp.
Candidates Perdue and Kemp have already sparred in the lead up to this stop over campaign funds.
After Kemp raised over $7 million, lawyers for Perdue argue that a new state law allowing certain top elected officials to create “leadership committees” that can raise campaign funds without limits, even when the legislature is in session, gives Kemp an unfair advantage.
