Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd. closed for hours as law enforcement investigatedMarch 20, 2022
CONNECTING...Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd. was closed in Fort Myers. This is happened between Ortiz Ave. and Michigan Ave. The road has since reopened. WINK News estimates that it was closed for nearly five hours.
Both Fort Myers police and Lee County deputies were on scene. There were a few tow trucks along MLK as well.
WINK News reporter Marcello Cuadra noticed one of the tow trucks towing a Lee County sheriff’s deputy vehicle that appeared to have landed in a ditch.
A dark gray honda SUV was towed away from the scene late Sunday afternoon as well. Right after that SUV was towed, the road reopened.
We do not know what law enforcement was investigating.
WINK News did speak with a woman, Regina Hamilton, who told us she saw what happened. “I saw this SUV, dark-colored SUV come flying up the road with a whole bunch of cops following it. And that was traffic in and out of the cars that were in the lanes and that were trying to pull over because of all the sirens,” said Hamilton.
Hamilton said she watched the deputy use their cruiser to stop the SUV. The Fort Myers Police Department did tell WINK News they were assisting the sheriff’s office.
WINK News also reached out to the Lee County Sheriff’s Office for more information but we have not yet heard back.
