FORESTPORT - A man stranded several hours after a snowmobile accident that occurred on Corridor Trail 7 Friday night was located by law enforcement Saturday morning.
Members of the sheriff’s Recreation Unit were called to Hemlock Road South after Oneida County Emergency Services received a call for someone who suffered cold exposure at 7:30 a.m. Once at the scene, deputies said it was learned that Eric Christiansen, 53, of Forestport, was involved in a snowmobile accident the evening before and spent the entire night outside. The accident Friday occurred around 11 p.m. on the Corridor Trail 7 train tracks.
Deputies said Christiansen attempted for several hours to get his snowmobile unstuck from the snow. He then gave up and began to walk the train tracks. After walking for hours he found an occupied residence whose residents took him in and provided him care until first aid personnel arrived.
Christiansen was not able to give the exact location of the accident, therefore deputies said they traveled the area on snowmobile and located the scene around 11 a.m. Christiansen signed off with EMS for any further medical treatment or transport.
At the conclusion of the investigation, deputies said that alcohol was a factor, the snowmobile was not legally registered and that Christiansen was operating on a closed trail.
The driver was ticketed for the registration and operating on the property of another without permission. He will appear in Forestport Town Court.
Woodgate Fire Department and STAR Ambulance assisted.
