Equifax, Others Lose Round in Lawsuit Over Maine Credit Law (1) - Bloomberg Law

A Maine law prohibiting companies such as TransUnion, Equifax, and Experian from issuing credit reports that include certain types of debt will remain on the books for now because federal law doesn’t fully preempt it, the First Circuit said.

The U.S. Court of Appeals for the First Circuit vacated a lower court decision holding that the federal Fair Credit Reporting Act bars the state from regulating reports of overdue medical debts and debts incurred due to economic abuse, which usually involve domestic abuse victims.
