Fallen Independence officer added to Missouri Law Enforcement Memorial - KMBC Kansas City

An Independence police officer killed in the line of duty was honored at Missouri's annual Law Enforcement Memorial Service Saturday.

Officer Blaize Madrid-Evans was among the 11 officers in Missouri who made the ultimate sacrifice in 2021. Four officers whose previous line of duty deaths were confirmed were also added to the memorial.

Madrid-Evans was killed last September when he was shot while checking on a parole violator. He had only been with the department for two months.

Family and friends were invited to the service at the state capitol as the names of fallen officers were added to the memorial.

Governor Mike Parson and Attorney General Eric Schmitt spoke at the service.

Family members of fallen officers placed white carnations in a wreath in honor of the officers’ sacrifice.
