Tallahassee, Fla. — Recently, the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services (FDACS) Office of Agricultural Law Enforcement (OALE) arrested Carlos Alberto Carrazana-Alonso for selling stolen credit card numbers following undercover and joint surveillance operations with federal officials.

“As the state’s consumer services agency, we take crimes involving individuals’ financial information very seriously,” said Commissioner Nikki Fried. “If you notice suspicious activity on a credit card, be sure to inform your provider immediately and freeze the account to help us crack down on such illegal activity.”

Timeline and background information:

Investigation: In January 2022, the FDACS OALE received a request for assistance with a counterfeit credit card investigation from the federal General Services Administration Office of Inspector General (GSA-OIG). The suspect sold stolen credit card numbers during an undercover operation in Miami-Dade County.

Results: On February 3, 2022, OALE law enforcement investigators conducted a joint surveillance operation with the GSA-OIG in Homestead, Florida, during which they observed Carrazana-Alonso leaving his residence, followed his vehicle, and conducted a traffic stop after Carrazana-Alonso committed several traffic infractions.

Charges: Based upon the information provided by the GSA-OIG to OALE investigators, Carrazana-Alonso was arrested without incident on the following charge: Violation of Section 817.611(2)(b), Florida Statutes, Traffic in or Possess Counterfeit Credit Cards, Second-Degree Felony, 1 count. Bond was set at $5,000 by the Miami-Dade Circuit Court.
