Federal judge approves final payment of $68 million to law firm that lobbied for scandal-ridden House Bill 6 - cleveland.com

COLUMBUS, Ohio — A federal bankruptcy judge on Tuesday approved final payment of $68 million in fees and expenses run up by a prominent law firm that organized the lobbying effort to pass the infamous House Bill 6 energy law.
The decision by Judge Alan Koschik comes after, on his order, lobbyists with Washington, D.C.-based Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld LLP, detailed their significant role in helping FirstEnergy Solutions, a then-subsidiary of FirstEnergy Corp., write and pass HB6. The law gave a $1 billion-plus bailout to two nuclear power plants owned by FirstEnergy Solutions -- now called Energy Harbor after it emerged from bankruptcy last year.
