Federal judge grants temporary injunction against Iowa law banning mask mandates - KCCI Des Moines

DES MOINES, Iowa —

A federal judge has granted a temporary injunction against an Iowa law that bans school mask mandates.

Judge Robert Pratt on Friday issued a ruling stating that the increase in COVID-19 in school children, the irreparable harm that could come to these kids if the law is reinstated, and more contributed to his decision.

The temporary restraining order on the state’s ban on mask mandates in schools was set to expire Monday.

Last month, Pratt ordered the state to temporarily ban a law that prevented schools from requiring masks.

Pratt said the law increased the risk of several children with underlying conditions to catch the virus.

The order had initially been set to expire on Sept. 27, but judge Pratt extended it until Oct. 11.

Since the order, several Iowa school districts implemented full, or partial mask mandates.
