Five questions with Keith Law about the Blue Jays' top prospects - The Athletic

Over the last several years, the Blue Jays have built up an enviable farm system. Some of their best prospects have graduated to the majors and established themselves as core pieces of the club, including first baseman Vladimir Guerrero Jr., shortstop Bo Bichette and, more recently, starter Alek Manoah. As their MLB club transitioned into contention, the front office has started dipping into their minor-league system to facilitate impact trades.

But even with some of the recent subtractions, the Blue Jays still have some highly touted prospects in their system.

The Athletic’s Keith Law will release his top 100 MLB prospects and organizational rankings in the new year, but he answered some of my pressing questions before then and offered an early peek into some of his thoughts on the Blue Jays system.

The consensus best prospect in the Blue Jays system is Gabriel Moreno, who Law ranked fifth in all of baseball in his 2021 mid-season rankings. Moreno hit .373/.441/.651 in 32 games at Double-A New Hampshire last season. He suffered a thumb injury in June, then was sidelined until September, when he finished the season playing three games in Triple A.

McGrath: Moreno has been described as “a future superstar.
