JASPER COUNTY — Steve W Stewart/KJAS - A former law enforcement officer from this area has been arrested again, and the District Attorney’s Office says he could possibly face prison time.

John Dees is now 45-years-old. From his early 20’s until about a decade ago, he worked for the Jasper Police and Jasper County Sheriff’s Departments, along with the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Department.

However, that ended in 2011 when he suddenly resigned from the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Department when it was revealed that he was under investigation for sexual assault of a child in January of 2003 here in Jasper County. He was indicted and arrested on that charge, and in January of 2016 he entered a guilty plea in exchange for 7 years of probation. He also had to register as a sex offender and he had to surrender his Texas Peace Officers license.

Currently living just northwest of Woodville, Dees was arrested on Thursday and booked into the Jasper County Jail where he was charged with Indecency with a Child/Exposing. He was later released on a $75,000.00 bond.

According to the Jasper County District Attorney’s Office, the latest arrest stems from Dees allegedly engaging in sexual contact with a child in Orange County in July of 2016, violating his probation.

The DA’s office says the next step will be a court hearing on a motion to adjudicate guilt.
