Crisp County, GA (WFXL)~ Law enforcement organizations from across the state have joined together for emergency management training.

Georgia Emergency Management Agency held their annual 'Mobile Command Vehicle Exercise' at Lake Blackshear. The event, being cancelled due to Covid in years past, is giving agencies across the state an opportunity to learn new skills together.

"This is our time to evaluate ourselves and our teams to see what our strengths and our weaknesses are’," said Ben Bray, Investigator, Sergeant 1st class with Crisp County Sheriff’s Department.

The week long training brought agencies to one location. Sharing resources and ideas about emergency preparedness. Organizer Greg Smith saying the benefits are paramount.

"This lets them exercise their equipment and use it... They're very important to stay fresh in their training learn new assets, news functions, and new features," said Greg Smith State Operations Center Manager with Georgia Emergency Management and Homeland Security.

Local agencies say its all about the collaboration. Professionals are given the chance to work one on one with other agencies. Making their partnership during unforeseen state emergencies, that much easier.

"We were able to work with these other agencies and see what they had and what capabilities they have," said Bray, "It just benefits not only Crisp County but it benefits the whole state because you never know where we’ll wind up together or [if] some other agencies may have to come here and assist us."

The learning doesn't stop at the end of the retreat. GEMA wants these agencies to bring what they learned back to their communities.

Events like this will continue to be held every two years. Organizers hope to continue building up every law enforcement agency within the state.
