Glen Rock Officer Matt Stanislao Appointed LGBTQ Law Enforcement Liaison - TAPinto.net
GLEN ROCK, NJ – Officer Matt Stanislao has been appointed as the Glen Rock Police Department’s LGBTQ Law Enforcement Liaison, according to the police chief. In cooperation with the statewide New Jersey LGBTQ Law Enforcement Liaisons organization, he will partner with government officials and be an internal resource and support to other officers to strengthen the relationship between the police and the LGBTQ community.
"As an openly gay officer who is also a licensed social worker, Matt’s identity is at the core of this initiative," Chief Dean Ackermann said in a press release. "His unique skills, 17 years of service to the GRPD, and his commitment to this issue provides the opportunity to bridge and overcome societal divides."
In April 2017, Stanislao was reinstated as an officer as part of a settlement with the borough after he sued for wrongful termination. According to the lawsuit, Stanislao alleged sexual harassment by peers and his superiors at the time that included vulgar comments made in front of him. He was terminated in October 2014 after 10 years as a Glen Rock Police Officer.
Chief Dean Ackermann has since replaced Fred Stahman as chief and a new management hierarchy has been put in place.
The mission of the LGBTQ Law Enforcement Liaison team is to ensure trust and promote a positive working relationship between law enforcement and the LGBTQ community through education and community outreach efforts.
