Harris County law library renamed after Black attorney who sued to desegregate it 70 years ago - Houston Chronicle

Seventy years after Robert W. Hainsworth sued the Harris County Comissioner’s Court to desegregate the county law library, a group of elected officials and prominent Black attorneys rededicated the library Thursday in honor of the late attorney and civil rights leader.

Hainsworth, a native Houstonian, returned to the city in 1949 after graduating from the Howard University School of Law and was required to sit at a single table marked for African Americans when he visited the law library to research his cases.
