HCTC law enforcement grads will now earn college credits - The Ellsworth American

ELLSWORTH — Students who successfully complete the law enforcement program at Hancock County Technical Center (HCTC) in Ellsworth and who enroll at the University of Maine at Fort Kent (UMFK) will now be starting their pursuit of a college degree with nine college credits already earned. This is possible due to a new articulation agreement between UMFK and HCTC.

“The agreement is focused on law enforcement-related programs,” said Scott Voisine, UMFK’s dean of community education. “Students who enter UMFK upon successful completion of the HCTC law enforcement program will earn nine credits toward a degree in one of three of UMFK’s programs including Criminal Justice, Rural Public Safety Administration and Conservation Law. There is no charge for these earned credits.”

“Hancock County Technical Center is thrilled with our law enforcement program’s new articulation agreement with the University of Maine at Fort Kent enabling students to earn nine college credits while in our program,” said HCTC Director Amy Boles. “This only reinforces the incredible opportunities our county’s students receive in career preparation and affording them the chance to earn college credits while still in high school at no extra cost to them.”

The agreement went into effect on Sept. 1, 2021.

“We are excited to pair with Hancock County Technical Center’s robust criminal justice program in delivering quality education to future law enforcement professionals,” said Marilyn Epp, UMFK’s assistant professor of criminal justice. “Creating these connections across the state helps students reach their goals and makes the state stronger as a whole.”
