Helmet law: Keep and enforce - The Seattle Times
Re: “King County Board of Health in favor of repealing bicycle helmet law, but delays vote” [Oct. 21, Local News]:
The apparent reasoning for this change in the law revolves around racial and income disparities of those ticketed for not wearing helmets. I call upon bike clubs and bike/scooter rental companies to make helmets available cheaply or free.
I have ridden regularly on trails and streets in Seattle for decades and have yet to witness a ticketing event. What I have witnessed is the total absence of helmets worn by riders of rental bicycles and scooters. I often wondered what was behind this free pass and who would be responsible for the brain injuries incurred by helmetless accident victims.
As a side note: I have fallen on several occasions and was saved from serious injury by my often cracked helmet.
Please keep and enforce the helmet law and make it universal.
