TAPPAN — For the first time in its history, the Henry Law Farm Museum will open to the public, according to Bill Huss, the great-great-grandson of Henry Law, who build the historic farmstead in the 1840s.

The museum, located on Reed Road near Tappan, will open on May 15 from 1 to 5 p.m. with tours every hour on the hour. Reservations are recommended and can be made through the Law Reed Huss Farm Foundation Facebook page.

“After the initial opening May 15 opening, our plan is to open on the fourth Sunday afternoon each month from June through October,” said Huss.

The Henry Law Farm is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and has been designated an Ohio Sesquicentennial Farm. The 278-acre property includes two houses, a summer kitchen, tool house, milk house, coal house, smokehouse, two carriage barns, four operations barns and various associated outbuildings.

Henry Law emigrated to Harrison County in 1830. He served on the school board and raised cattle, sheep and crops. His son, John Quincy (1846-1927) inherited the farm in 1869 where he and his wife Ella Scott (1848-1925) raised six children.

John and Ella’s daughter, Lena (1888-1963), married Ernest Reed (1887-1978) in 1913 and purchased half the farm in 1920. Lena was a graduate of Wooster University in 1911.

The farm is owned and operated by the Law Reed Huss Farm Foundation.
