Honoring 394 American Law Enforcement Heroes | News - City of Santa Clara

Every May, the National Law Enforcement Memorial and Museum hosts National Police Week to honor the fallen, support survivors of fallen officers, tell the story of American law enforcement, and make it safer for those who serve.

Due to the pandemic, National Police Week was not held in May 2020 or May 2021.

In turn, October 13 - 17, 2021, has been designated National Police Weekend. A number of virtual and in-person events are being held including a Candlelight Vigil on Thursday, October 14 at 6 p.m. on the National Mall in Washington D.C. to memorialize those who sacrificed all for their communities. A total of 701 names will be read to honor the officers who lost their lives in 2019 and 2020. This event will be Live Streamed.

In addition, the names of 394 officers killed in the line of duty were added to the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial in Washington, DC. These 394 officers included 295 officers who were killed during 2020 (182 fatalities were COVID-19-related), plus 99 officers who died in previous years but whose stories of sacrifice had been lost to history until now. The Roll Call of Heroes is online. It includes 14 officers from California.
