Hudson talks about new mask law - - CBS19 News

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (CBS19 NEWS) -- Delegate Sally Hudson spoke about the newly-signed law during a town hall on Wednesday night.

She said though she is not entirely surprised, she finds the law disappointing.

Hudson says she thinks removing the mandate could move COVID cases in the wrong direction.

She says it would have been better to leave the masking decision to local school districts.

"Count me as someone who thinks that infectious diseases are inherently a communal problem, that each of our behavior has consequences for all the other people around us. So I had hoped that the ability to try to contain the spread of the infections would continue to be the authority of those local school boards,” said Hudson.

She says she is still optimistic that some parents will send their child to school in a mask and encourages that for her constituents.

She is also recommending vaccines for adults and children who have not gotten their shots, saying the pandemic is far from over.
