I-5 closed south of Grants Pass for 'law enforcement activity' - KATU
GRANTS PASS, Ore. — A police incident has Interstate 5 closed about five miles south of Grants Pass on Sunday, the Oregon Department of Transportation said.
According to Oregon State Police, this is a SWAT call-out with Josephine and Jackson County Sheriff's offices about five miles south of Grants Pass. Several other law enforcement personnel are responding as well.
The incident has I-5 closed between mileposts 48 and 55. Both north and southbound lanes are closed and our reporter in the area says the freeway is at a standstill.
"This could be a lengthy closure," ODOT said, adding that people should use alternate routes.
A detour is in place for both directions - Exit 55 (southbound) and Exit 45A (northbound) - onto Highway 99.
This is a developing story; updates will be posted as information comes in.
