Jackson religious leaders come together with law enforcement during Faith and Blue event - WAPT Jackson
JACKSON, Miss. —
Religious leaders have come together with law enforcement Saturday to speak to Jackson residents.
This is a part of the week-long Faith and Blue event that celebrates Hinds County law enforcement.
"This country was built on in God we trust. We're just getting back down to the foundation, to help law enforcement, to help broken communities," said Chief James Davis, Jackson Police Department.
The city of Jackson and JPD had many planned events to unite officers with citizens.
One local pastor spoke and believes that reducing the city's crime is up to higher power.
"If we can pray for the next generation, God will show up and show out. And what we have right now is more people standing together under one unity, and that is the Lord Jesus Christ," said Juanita Ward, Jackson pastor.
On Sunday singers, dancers and poets were at the Smith-Wills stadium.
And the Christianity-based evening ended with a candlelight vigil.
Many were there to show their support for city officers.
"I'm out here today because listen, I support, can I use a really strong word, I love the police. Okay, we need more police officers," said Ronnie Crudup, Jackson bishop.
On Monday there will be a balloon release and prayer at JPD headquarters at noon.
