Joseph David “JD” “Brother-in-Law” Duplechain, 83, of Lake Charles passed away at 12:33 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 12, 2021 in a local hospital.
Mr. Duplechain was born on Nov. 1, 1938 in Washington, La. to Julius Duplechain and Hycienth T. Duplechain. He was raised in Church Point where he was a graduate of Church Point High School. Mr. Duplechain served in the US Army from May 11, 1956 to May 10, 1958. He served as a firefighter at Dona Anna Range and McGregor Range in New Mexico. Mr. Duplechain worked for Lake City Painters for 48 years.
He had a special love for the sport of horse racing.
Those left to cherish his memory are his children, Vickie Ann Duplechain Bergeron (Billy) of LeBleu Settlement, and Tina Duplechain Hare (Jon) of Moss Bluff; a stepdaughter, Susan Kay Alford (Kevin) of Carencro; sister, Enola Bourgeois (Blanco) of Lake Charles; seven grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two children, Tammy Lynn Duplechain and W.R. “Buddy” Duplechain; his first wife and the mother of his children, Judy Dunmire; his second wife, Marie Spell; the love of his life, Lois Ann Duplechain; and a sister, Gertie Mae Higginbotham.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 17, 2021 in the Johnson Funeral Home in Moss Bluff. The Rev. Steve Shirley will officiate. Cremation will follow services. Visitation will begin at 11 a.m. and continue until the start of the service.
