Judge Blackmon to speak at Geauga County Bar Association’s Law Day luncheon - The News-Herald
The first African American woman ever elected to the Ohio Court of Appeals, Judge Patricia Ann Blackmon, will give the keynote address at the Geauga County Bar Association’s Law Day luncheon at 11:30 a.m., April 29, at Guido’s event center, 12809 Chillicothe Road in Chester Township.
The recently retired judge is expected to speak about this year’s Law Day theme, “Toward a More Perfect Union: The Constitution in Times of Change,” focused on her experiences growing up in the South and her great migration to Cleveland, according to a news release.
Richard “Rick” Warner, lead investigator at the Geauga County Prosecutor’s Office, will receive the Law Enforcement Officer of the Year Award for his efforts leading to the conviction of Robert McWilliams on state and federal charges relating to the victimization of various juveniles.
The bar association will also honor the winners of the 2022 essay contest for high school students at the event. They are:
• First Place — Parker O’Keefe, a junior at Hawken School
• Second Place — Antonio Vitale, a senior at Notre Dame Cathedral Latin
• Third Place — Frances Connors, a senior at Hawken School
The Geauga County Bar Association annually celebrates Law Day with programs designed to help people understand how the law keeps people free and how the legal system strives to achieve justice.
