Judge overturns Florida law that allows online sports betting - CBSSports.com

USATSI

A federal judge has overturned Florida's sports betting deal with the Seminole Tribe. It was ruled that the sports betting plan was in violation of both the Florida state constitution and federal Indian gambling law. United States District Judge Dabney Friedrich is the one who ruled to stop the Seminole Tribe's online sports betting plan, which had launched on Nov. 1.

According to the Sarasota Herald-Tribune, the Seminole Tribe, which has an online sports gambling operation through Hard Rock Sportsbook in the state, filed an appeal on the decision on Tuesday. Friedrich's ruling specifically called out that sports betting is allowed to occur in the state from any device through the servers on Seminole tribal land.

According to Friedrich, the part about the location of the servers violates the Indian Gaming Regulatory Act.

The winners of this ruling, for now, are "family-owned businesses," such as Magic City Casino, which gave the following quote to the Sarasota Herald-Tribune:

"Last night's ruling was a victory for family-owned businesses like ours who pay their fair share in taxes and believe the free market should guide the business operations of gaming venues. The judge clearly understood the blatant violation of IGRA as her ruling demonstrates. We look forward to working with the Governor, Legislature, and the citizens of Florida to pave a path forward that ensures a fair gaming marketplace exists in Florida."

This latest drama surrounding legal online sports gambling did not come as a shock to Gov. Ron DeSantis.

"We anticipated that this could happen," he said on Wednesday, according to the Sarasota Herald-Tribune, after previously admitting that only allowing online gambling via the servers on specific land was "an unsettled legal issue."

Even with this new ruling, people in Florida were still able to place online sports bets as of Wednesday morning.

Regardless, for now, the future of sports betting in the state of Florida is unclear.

Cousins has been great in some tough matchups of late. He's scored at least 21 Fantasy points in each of his past three outings against Baltimore, the Chargers and Green Bay, with two of those games (at BAL and at LAC) on the road. He's actually averaging 27.0 Fantasy points per game on the road, and he should continue to play well against the 49ers. San Francisco has been stingy against opposing quarterbacks of late with no quarterback scoring more than 17 Fantasy points in the past three games against Arizona, the Rams and Jacksonville, but I'm trusting Cousins to deliver a strong performance as a potential top-five quarterback in all leagues.
Matthew Stafford QB LAR L.A. Rams • #9

Stafford comes off his bye hopefully refocused and ready to go after scoring 14 Fantasy points or less in each of his past two games against Tennessee and San Francisco. He's still adjusting to life without Robert Woods (ACL) and with Odell Beckham, and it would be great if Stafford started looking like the quarterback who scored at least 21 Fantasy points in seven of his first eight games. He has a familiar opponent to do it against with the Packers, and the former Lions quarterback is averaging 304 passing yards per game in his past five games at Lambeau Field, with four outings with multiple touchdown passes over that span. I'm trusting Stafford in this spot, and he should rebound in Week 12.
Cam Newton QB CAR Carolina • #1

Newton didn't get the homecoming he wanted in Week 11 against Washington since the Panthers lost 27-21, but he still had a great Fantasy game with 29 points. He passed for 189 yards and two touchdowns and added 46 rushing yards and a touchdown, and he's capable of doing that on a weekly basis. The Dolphins have allowed three quarterbacks to rush for at least 33 yards in a game this season, including Josh Allen and Lamar Jackson in two of the past four games. And for the season, Miami allows an average of 21.6 Fantasy points per game to opposing quarterbacks. Newton has top-10 upside this week.

The return of Dallas left tackle Tyron Smith (ankle) is more important for Prescott than having Amari Cooper (COVID-19) and CeeDee Lamb (concussion) for this game. Prescott should be fine with Michael Gallup, Ced Wilson and Dalton Schultz, as well as Ezekiel Elliott and Tony Pollard out of the backfield. Prescott might not be a top-five Fantasy quarterback with a depleted receiving corps, but he should still be a top-10 starter. And the Raiders have allowed three of the past five opposing quarterbacks to score at least 23 Fantasy points, which is a total Prescott should be able to reach on Thanksgiving Day.

Garoppolo is averaging 21.8 Fantasy points per game in his past four outings, and now he faces a Vikings defense in Week 12 that allows the seventh-most Fantasy points to opposing quarterbacks this year. Two of the past three quarterbacks against Minnesota have scored at least 36 Fantasy points, and this game has the chance to be a high-scoring affair.
Tyrod Taylor QB HOU Houston • #5

Taylor scored 18 Fantasy points in Week 11 at Tennessee, and now he gets a favorable matchup against the Jets in Week 12. The Jets have allowed six quarterbacks in a row to score at least 20 Fantasy points, and Taylor is worth using as a streaming option in all leagues.

Heinicke scored 28 Fantasy points at Carolina in Week 11, and hopefully he stays hot against Seattle in Week 12 at home Monday night. The Seahawks just allowed 26 Fantasy points against Colt McCoy in Week 11 at home, and this game has the feel of a shootout. Heinicke is a solid streamer in this matchup.

Ryan Tannehill QB TEN Tennessee • #17

PAYDS 2681 RUYDS 172 TD 18 INT 12 FPTS/G 18.5
Tannehill was a train wreck against Houston in Week 11 with four interceptions, and there's no way you can trust him this week at the Patriots, especially if A.J. Brown (chest) is out. He's already down Julio Jones (hamstring) and Marcus Johnson (hamstring), and this is a terrible matchup on the road. New England is No. 2 in fewest Fantasy points allowed to opposing quarterbacks, and the past five quarterbacks against the Patriots have scored 16 Fantasy points or less.
Derek Carr QB LV Las Vegas • #4
Age: 30 • Experience: 8 yrs.

Carr is struggling lately with 11 Fantasy points or less in two of his past three games. I don't expect him to be great on a short week on the road, and the Cowboys have been tough on opposing quarterbacks of late. In their past six games, Dallas has allowed just Teddy Bridgewater in Week 9 to score more than 19 Fantasy points, including matchups with Cousins, Matt Ryan and Patrick Mahomes. Ryan and Mahomes combined for seven Fantasy points in the past two weeks. Carr is only worth using in two-quarterback and Superflex leagues.
Matt Ryan QB ATL Atlanta • #2
Age: 36 • Experience: 14 yrs.

YTD Stats
PAYDS 2427 RUYDS 37 TD 16 INT 10 FPTS/G 17.5
Ryan is due for a bounceback game, and he can't exactly get much worse. But it's hard to trust him in this spot. He's scored seven Fantasy points or less in three of his past four outings, and he has no touchdowns and four interceptions in his past two games against Dallas and New England. The Jaguars aren't a pushover based on the way their defense has played lately, so don't consider this a soft landing spot. In Jacksonville's past three games against Josh Allen, Carson Wentz and Garoppolo, those quarterbacks have combined for 35 Fantasy points. Ryan might get Cordarrelle Patterson (ankle) back this week, but he's still without Calvin Ridley (personal), which is clearly a problem.
Tua Tagovailoa QB MIA Miami • #1
Age: 23 • Experience: 2 yrs.
Weekly Breakdown
MATCHUP vs CAR CAR -1.5 O/U 42 OPP VS QB 10th PROJ PTS 16.1 QB RNK 17th
YTD Stats
PAYDS 1471 RUYDS 68 TD 12 INT 6 FPTS/G 18.2
Tagovailoa did fine as the Start of the Week in Week 11 at the Jets with 20 Fantasy points, but I was hoping for more. We'll see if he can deliver this week against the Panthers, but I would look elsewhere in one-quarterback leagues. Carolina has allowed one quarterback to score more than 18 Fantasy points in the past four games, and the Panthers give up an average of just 17.0 Fantasy points per game to the position for the season. I would only start Tagovailoa in two-quarterback and Superflex leagues.

Ben Roethlisberger QB PIT Pittsburgh • #7
Age: 39 • Experience: 18 yrs.
Weekly Breakdown
MATCHUP @ CIN CIN -4.5 O/U 45 OPP VS QB 8th PROJ PTS 16.9 QB RNK 21st
YTD Stats
PAYDS 2259 RUYDS 6 TD 13 INT 4 FPTS/G 17.2
I started the week optimistic about Roethlisberger for this matchup against the Bengals, but some things have changed. If the Steelers get back T.J. Watt (hip/knee), Joe Haden (foot) and Minkah Fitzpatrick (COVID-19) as expected, I don't envision Roethlisberger dramatically chasing points like we saw in Week 11 at the Chargers since this game should be tighter. Roethlisberger also has a bad history in Cincinnati with one game with multiple touchdown passes in his past five trips there going back to 2015. And the Bengals also allow an average of just 18.0 Fantasy points per game to opposing quarterbacks this year. Only use Roethlisberger in two-quarterback and Superflex leagues.
