The Justice Department sued Texas over aspects of its new voting law, the latest Biden administration challenge to Republican-backed changes to state voting procedures.

The department’s lawsuit says the state legislation, passed in September and known as SB 1, violates federal voting-rights law by limiting how helpers can assist certain voters, such as people with disabilities, and by requiring rejection of mail ballots for what it called “immaterial errors or omissions.”
