Kelleher Law Holiday Hoopfest Day 2: Somerset Prep beats Fairdale (Ky.) in quarterfinals - Naples Daily News
Recaps of games in the Kelleher Law Holiday Hoopfest at Golden Gate High School on Tuesday, Dec. 28:
Somerset Prep 58, Fairdale (Ky.) 55
The Hurricanes held off the Bulldogs in the quarterfinals, with Deshayne Montgomery sealing the victory with two free throws with 0.9 seconds left.
Teammate Jaiden Miller missed a pair of free throws with 5.7 seconds left, but the Bulldogs turned it over after inbounding the ball with 2.7 seconds remaining.
Somerset Prep (12-2) led by as many as 10 early in the fourth quarter, in the third quarter, but Fairdale (5-7) whittled it down to 53-52 on two Dalton Hicks free throws with 29 seconds remaining.
Montgomery made two free throws, and Miller made 1 of 2 for a 56-52 lead, but Hicks drove to the basket and was fouled. The three-point play drew the Bulldogs within 56-55 with 7.6 seconds remaining, and Miller then was sent to the line and missed both.
Miller had 17 points, Montgomery added 13. Jayden Brown had 12, and Ricardo Corvil scored 10 and had five rebounds.
Hicks, a sophomore, had a game-high 24 points and fellow sophomore Jacob Tucker added 16 points. Hicks had seven rebounds.
Lehigh 70, Largo 67
The Lightning bounced back from a disappointing first-round loss and dealt the Packers another tight loss.
Lehigh (6-5) made two free throws with 29.4 seconds left to lead by four, then Largo made a pair to close within 70-67. The Lightning missed at the line with a chance to ice the game with 6.2 seconds remaining, but a 3-pointer by the Packers (6-5), who lost to Golden Gate on a last-second 3-pointer on Monday, was off the mark at the buzzer.
Jose Constanza-Garcia had 21 points and 13 rebounds for Lehigh. Avant Upshaw had 18 points, including 4 3-pointers, and Tyler Diaz had 17 points.
Jayden Loydd had a game-high 22 points for Largo. Adrian Moss and Enrique Moreno added 14 apiece, and Preston Church had 12.
Mariner 71, Gulf Coast 56
The Tritons rolled to a 17-point first-quarter lead and then held off the Sharks.
Armando Arguelles Jr. had a game-high 23 points for Mainer (12-1), which led 59-38 entering the fourth quarter. Kelvin Jimenez had 18 points and nine rebounds, and Zachary Everly had 15 points and six boards.
Sebastian Dosa had 18 points for the Sharks (7-5). Wesley Roark and Joel Beavis each had 11, and Roark had 12 rebounds.
First Baptist 61, Riverdale 22
A day after a tight loss to Somerset Prep, the Lions easily dispatched of the winless Raiders.
FBA (6-2) took a 15-5 first-quarter lead, and extended it to 29 by halftime.
Olsen Henry scored 15 points and had four rebounds for the Lions to lead a balanced attack. Zacharie Garcon added seven points and five rebounds off the bench.
Elijah Moore had five points for Riverdale (0-11).
Fort Myers 54, Naples 43
A day after scoring just 28 points in a 53-point shellacking by Orlando Evans, the Green Wave bounced back with a nice win over Naples, which was coming off a loss in the late game Monday.
Marquielle Tory had 19 points and eight rebounds for Fort Myers (4-5), and Jefferson Jean added 13 points and nine boards. After committing 29 turnovers against Evans, the Greenies still had 22, but Naples could not take enough of an advantage.
Naples shot just 21% for the game and was 8 of 43 in the second half, including 3 of 20 from 3-point range. Issiah Bryant and Ghaith Fakhoury each had 10 points for Naples (3-8).
