Somerset Prep 63, Hallandale 61
After both teams were routed in the semifinals Wednesday night, they responded with good performances in the third-place game.
Junior Desir made a 3-pointer for his only points of the game with 1:12 left to break a 57-all tie and give the Hurricanes (13-3) the lead for good.
Hallandale (8-4) closed within a point twice, the last on Anthony Floyd's two free throws with 18.3 seconds left. But the Chargers had to commit three more fouls to get Somerset Prep in the bonus, and by the time that happened, there were just 3.1 seconds remaining.
Deshayne Montgomery made the first free throw, and missed the second. The Hurricanes grabbed the rebound, but were called for traveling with 0.5 seconds left. The Chargers did not get off a shot before the buzzer.
Montgomery had 32 points and nine rebounds. Jaiden Miller had nine points and seven assists.
Floyd led Hallandale with 27 points. Isaac Harney had nine.
