Kelleher Law Holiday Hoopfest: Somerset Prep edges First Baptist - Naples Daily News

Recaps of the first day of the Kelleher Law Holiday Hoopfest at Golden Gate High School in Naples on Tuesday, Dec. 27.

Somerset Prep 58, First Baptist Academy 55

The Lions and Hurricanes went back and forth, and Somerset Prep pulled out the tight victory.

Jaiden Miller had a conventional three-point play to put Somerset Prep (11-2) ahead 56-54, and after FBA's Latrell Davis made 1 of 2 free throws with 49.9 seconds left, the Hurricanes ran the clock down to 16.7 seconds before getting fouled.

Deshayne Montgomery made both free throws for a three-point lead. The Lions (5-2) missed a 3-pointer, stole an outlet pass and missed another 3-pointer, and made another steal and got off a desperation 3-pointer at the buzzer that was off.

On the second missed 3-pointer, it appeared the Lions player may have been fouled with a Somerset Prep player on the floor at his feet. The whistle blew with 2.1 seconds left, but after conferring, Stewart said he was told the whistle was inadvertent.

FBA led 47-39 early in the fourth quarter, but Somerset Prep's full-court pressure finally got to the Lions, and the Hurricanes went on a 10-0 run to take a 49-47 lead with 3:25 to go. The teams went back and forth after that, with Olsen Patt Henry's conventional three-point play giving FBA a 54-53 lead with 1:44 left.

Montgomery had 21 points and four rebounds, and Miller added 20 points.

Henry had a game-high 25 points and 14 rebounds, and Davis added 17 points.

Fairdale (Ky.) 74, Mariner 67 OT

The Bulldogs remained unbeaten, but just barely. They rallied from a seven-point halftime deficit to take a four-point lead, then the Tritons came back in the fourth quarter to take the lead.

But the Bulldogs hit a 3-pointer in the final seconds to force overtime.

In the overtime, though, Fairdale (11-0) dominated, scoring 10 of the 13 points.

Dalton Hicks, a 6-2 sophomore, scored a game-high 31 points for the Bulldogs and added eight rebounds. Jacob Tucker, a 6-3 sophomore, had 10 points and 10 rebounds.

Armando Arguelles Jr. led the Tritons (4-7) with 21 points. Zachary Everly had 16 points and six rebounds, and Justin Lewis had 11 points, six rebounds and four assists.

Doral Academy 63, Riverdale 17

The Firebirds outscored the winless Raiders 17-2 in the first quarter, and eventually turned the game into a running clock.

Justin Johnson had 21 points to lead Doral (6-4), and Gabe Hernandez added 20 points and five assists. Leroy Lee Jr. had 11 points and six rebounds off the bench.

William Pinkerman led Riverdale (0-10) with 11 points.

Ponte Vedra 59, Gulf Coast 26

One of team of Sharks routed the other in a game that went to a running clock.

Ponte Vedra (8-2) pulled away with a 17-5 second quarter to take a 31-13 lead, and outscored Gulf Coast (7-4) 25-2 in the third.

Ross Candelino had 16 points for Ponte Vedra, and J.T. Kelly added 14.
