Kendrick Law's father weighs in on LSU official visit weekend - 247Sports
247Sports director of recruiting Steve Wiltfong made contact with the father of 2022 Shreveport (La.) Captain Shreve athlete Kendrick Law, who was on the official visit this weekend to LSU with his son. The Tigers hold the 247Sports Crystal Ball edge over Alabama as Brian Kelly made a positive impact on the four-star prospect.
“Brian Kelly is a good genuine guy that I think he definitely has a plan that he wants to put in place at LSU,” Law’s father Kendrick Sr. said. “I believe once he gets the people there he wants to get in or whatever, there is a reason he’s been a continued head coach over and over and over and not had to drop down to an assistant. He moves from head coach to head coach for a reason and he knows what he’s doing.
"LSU we did an unofficial there this summer so a lot of coaches that were there were not there this visit but some of them were. I think they just have to put it together, put the plan together and get it into action and I think they’ll be successful.”
He's set to make his decision during the early signing period as an early enrollee. Alabama, Florida State, Texas and now LSU have all hosted Law for official visits.
247Sports ranks Law as the No. 75 overall prospect in the country, No. 2 athlete in the nation and No. 4 prospect in Louisiana. 247Sports moved Law up into the Top 100 range of overall prospects over the summer and he's challenged for the top spot in Louisiana.
"Kendrick Law was going to move up on track data alone after what he did in the spring," national recruiting analyst Gabe Brooks said of the Top 100 prospect. "But when combined with what he did at the Pylon 7on7 National Championships, where he flashed numerous times on both sides of the ball for the Louisiana Bootleggers, Law deserved top 50 consideration, which he got. There was discussion about Law moving ahead of Jacoby Mathews, who I would like to see move down to a linebacker projection.
"Regardless, LSU could be getting two bona fide elite back-seven defenders who will probably be able to stay on the field in myriad personnel groupings and down-and-distance situations."
2021 brought Law's elite track times even closer to the forefront, placing him second in the Louisiana 5A state meet in the 100-meter with a 104.8 wind-aided time. He also clocked a 10.77, 10.92 and 10.97 100-meter time. He also ran a 22.05 200-meter time and long jumped 22-8 in 2021.
As one of the fastest football-track combo athletes in the state of Louisiana, Law recorded official times of 10.93 in the 100-meter in 2020, as well as a 7.25 60-yard dash a year ago as a freshman. In limited competition in spring 2020, Law also recorded a 24.20 200-meter dash and a 21’11” long jump, up from 18’9.25” at this time a year ago.
