Law and Order: Brandon Scott remains tight-lipped on summer crime plan - Fox Baltimore

BALTIMORE (WBFF) — Crime tends to rise during the summer months, and cities across the country are now preparing.
Baltimore Mayor Brandon Scott says he has a plan to curb violence in the city but is staying primarily tight-lipped about what it entails.
FOX45 News pressed the mayor last week on what the plan could include.
"I'm never going to talk about police deployment out in the public," said Scott. "That would be very stupid for me to do because we know criminals watch TV, we know that."
Meanwhile, New York's Police Department is releasing the details of its summer violence prevention plan. The department plans to put more cops on patrol.
Law enforcement expert Maury Richards joined the morning show this morning to weigh in on which approach is more effective and if Mayor Scott should release the details of his crime plan.
"When I heard Mayor Scott say that this was like a secret plan, it was the most absurd thing I've ever heard," said Richards. "When we are fighting crime, we want the entire community behind us. You have to let people know what to expect, what the police are going to do, and the citizens' roles in helping. Keeping these things quiet only adds more problems."
When asked if the Baltimore City Police department should put more cops on patrol like New York, Richards said it doesn't matter how many cops you have on the streets if they are not arresting those committing low-level crimes.
"Of course, you always want to see more police out there," said Richards. "Unfortunately, in Baltimore, the problem is much deeper and goes to very bad policies. Starting with Marilyn Mosby, but supported by the mayor and commissioner. They are not arresting people for quality of life crimes, they are letting these criminals go free, it makes them more emboldened to do more serious crimes."
"It doesn't matter how many police you have out there if they are not going out, locking up criminals, and making citizens feel safe."
