Las Vegas (KSNV) — You may see more law enforcement on the road this month, it’s all part of increased holiday enforcement to crack down on drunk drivers.

You won’t see any checkpoints, but instead, you will see more patrol cars on the roads throughout December.

Law enforcement calls it increased visibility.

The Nevada Office of Traffic Safety is going bigger than ever before, working with a record 26 agencies across the state to catch Nevadans who are drinking and driving.

On the first day of the enforcement, there was a fatal DUI crash that left one dead near downtown Las Vegas.

To prevent tragedies like this, the Office of Traffic Safety is funding agencies to help.

The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department (LVMPD) said it would dedicate extra officers to look for impaired drivers.

Andrew Bennett with the Nevada Office of Traffic Safety said there were around 133 DUI arrests across the state during last year’s holiday enforcement, and the goal is to cut that to zero.

“Halloween through New Year’s Eve is the second deadliest time of year for us, and so that’s why we have that need. But any time there’s a key consumption holiday with both Christmas and New Year’s being impairment-related holidays, it’s important for us to make sure folks are doing the right thing,” Bennett said.

Officials urge you not to make a poor decision and drive after drinking.

Utilize rideshare and taxis if necessary.

To report a drunk driver, dial *NHP (*647).
