PLEASANT VIEW, Utah (KUTV) — Weber School District officials said they were made aware that a student was potentially planning to carry out an attack at Weber High School.

In a press release from the Weber County Sheriff’s Office, officials said they received a tip from the FBI regarding a threat made toward the school on Sept. 23.

They said through the course of the investigation, evidence was found leading investigators to take the 15-year-old into custody.

Officials said the 15-year-old student planned a threat, but because the investigation is ongoing, details on the student, their plans or how far along they were in the planning process was not released. Officials stated there was never an imminent danger to the school or other students.

"The number one way we find out about threats or plots is by another student who comes forward when they have a bit of information," said Ken Trump, a school safety expert with the National School Safety and Security Services consulting firm.

Trump said it’s natural for parents, students and staff to be on edge in the next couple days, but deputies said acting early and quickly early prevented any violence.

"Security will always be heightened the days after a threat and it’s possibly the safest day you could go to school," he added.

According to the Weber County Attorney’s Office, investigations are ongoing, but they are confident at this point that there were no other students or suspects involved.

"Investigators worked tirelessly on this case and should be commended for their quick action and thorough investigation," officers stated.
