Law enforcement continues to probe for links to 3 suspected OD deaths in less than 12 hours in Harrison West Virginia - WV News

CLARKSBURG, W.Va. (WV News) — Law enforcement is continuing to probe for any links to three suspected overdose deaths within less than 12 hours this week in Harrison County, Sheriff Robert Matheny said Friday afternoon.

So far, officials haven't been able to isolate a single cause such as a certain dealer or a specific "brand" of street drug.

The sheriff also said he's unaware of any new overdose deaths.

Matheny, the commander of the Greater Harrison Drug & Violent Crimes Task Force and the deputy chief for Bridgeport Police, Mark Rogers, all have warned area users to exercise extreme caution. Lethal fentanyl is being mixed with other substances or even totally replacing them, but that isn't being conveyed during street sales. And if dealers mix fentanyl without the right knowledge and/or equipment, the chances of a deadly outcome for users becomes even greater.

Anyone with information about the rash of overdoses is asked to call 911 and ask for the Harrison Sheriff's Office shift commander, Matheny added.

Meanwhile, users who are seeking help can contact 844-435-7498, the Help4WV hotline. It's staffed 24/7 and is highly recommended by key leaders in the addiction recovery field.
