As of today, Baltimore is reporting 335 homicides. That's compared to 333 this time last year.

Nonfatal shootings are also up from last year, 724 compared to 714.

The holidays did not slow the violence. There were at least three shootings on Christmas day, one of them being a confirmed homicide. There were at least two shootings Christmas Eve.

Law enforcement expert and Former Chief of Police in Martinsburg, WV Maury Richards says it would take a total change in policy to stop the violence.

"Since [Baltimore City State's Attorney] Marilyn Mosby's been in office, she's instituted a policy that favors criminal offenders over crime victims and we're seeing the results," Richards said. "These dangerous offenders, they share no consequences. She lets thousands of them off. They're emboldened. They feel enabled, and now, unfortunately, the citizens of Baltimore are seeing the terrible results of her policies."

When it comes to young offenders, Richards says it starts at home, and blames the schools as well.

When it comes to repeat offenders, Richards says you have to target them.
