Law Enforcement Expert talks about what he says is a "lack of prosecution in Balitmore" - Fox Baltimore
BALTIMORE (WBFF) — Fighting crime in Balitmore has been a constant theme at FOX45’s “Your Voice, Your Future” Town Hall sessions across the city.
It is a concern as the number of murders this year approaches the 300 mark.
One of the biggest parts of Mayor Brandon Scott’s new crime plan is a goal to reduce gun violence by 15% every year for the next five years.
Basing the numbers off of last year’s homicide rate of 335, a 15% reduction this year would put the city at 285 homicides.
Former Chief of Police in Martinsburg, West Virginia and law enforcement expert Maury Richards says “The mayor’s plan is misguided.”
He believe that’s because it relies on what Baltimore City State’s Attorney Marilyn Mosby has done which he says is “not prosecuting crimes, not going after criminals and that’s created this whole culture of lawlessness and crime is out of control as a result.”
Richards says even the recent surge in ATM smash and grab cases is all connected because criminals in Baltimore don’t fear and consequences.
“That’s unfortunately been the case with this lack of prosecution.” He said.
