Law enforcement goes door to door in search of shooting suspect Patrick McDowell - ActionNewsJax.com

NASSAU COUNTY, Fla. — Local law enforcement agencies took their search door to door on Saturday.

The Nassau County Sheriff’s Office sent SWAT team members knocking on Callahan residents’ doors to check on families to make sure they were safe.

Officials said the search took place on Sandy Ford Road, Caleb Court, and Daybreak Drive, forming a more narrowed search area on day two.

Charles Swords and his family live on Sandy Ford, which connects to the other roads in the search area. He said they’ve seen patrol cars pass by day and night.

“We actually had to leave the doors locked last night. We always leave the doors open,” Swords said.

The worry reaches down to his eight-year-old son Brison.

“I just don’t want the cat or my dog to get hurt, even my dad, and I don’t want that guy to come into my house, definitely,” Brison said.

Officials said the door-to-door search is to check if accused shooter Patrick McDowell was hiding, or worst case scenario, holding someone hostage.

“Ain’t nothing like this happened before. You got everybody worried,” Sandy Ford resident Joshua Swords said.

Even though the commotion on the ground and in the sky was a constant, these residents said they’re thankful for the work of law enforcement near and far.

“Thank you to all of our law enforcement for doing what you guys can to find this guy,” Sandy Ford resident Megan Fountain said.
